RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND SPONSOR: current projects--1) remote
measurement of ice-water content in cirrus, 2) fabrication of a High
Spectral Resolution Lidar for unattended deployment in the Arctic, 3)
Computation of multiply scattered contributions to satellite-borne
laser altimetry signals. 4) Validation of Large-Eddy-Simulation models
using Volume Imaging Lidar data.

MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUE: High Spectral Resolution Lidar and Volume
Imaging Lidar

MEASUREMENT RANGE: HSRL to ~30 km altitude, VIL in boundary layer
~18 km and 60-100 km for cirrus mapping.

VERTICAL RESOLUTION: 15 m both systems

SIGNAL PROCESSING: online correction for r^2 and energy with a
variety of sophisicated realtime display options, extensive
off-line processing

ANALOG-T0-DIGITAL CONVERTER: HSRL photon counting, VIL 12 bits-10 mHz.

COMPUTER: HSRL DEC-alpha with i960 VME based front-end.
VIL SGI 4400 with i960 VME based front-end.
